Social Communication Difficulties

When your child struggles to connect with others, it can be confusing and isolating—for them and for you. We help kids build the communication and social skills they need to feel understood, included, and confident.

What Are Social Communication Difficulties?

Social communication is more than just talking—it’s how we connect. It includes reading body language, understanding tone of voice, taking turns in conversation, and knowing what’s appropriate in different situations.
Some kids speak clearly but struggle to hold a conversation. Others miss social cues or have difficulty understanding humor, emotion, or perspective. These challenges often show up in friendships, classroom behavior, or group settings.

How We Help

Our Speech-language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists help children build real-world communication skills in ways that feel natural, empowering, and fun. We focus on:

  • Understanding nonverbal cues (like facial expressions or body language)

  • Taking turns, staying on topic, and repairing conversations

  • Navigating friendships and social problem-solving

  • Building emotional understanding and flexible thinking

  • Increasing confidence in group or peer settings

We also coach families on how to support carryover at home and help your child apply these skills in daily life.

Outcomes Families See

Parents often tell us their child is making more eye contact, responding more appropriately, and feeling more confident in social situations—without having to be someone they’re not.

Let’s help your child connect, communicate, and feel confident in the relationships that matter most.
