Visual Processing & Perceptual Challenges

When your child struggles to make sense of what they see, it can impact everything—from reading and handwriting to confidence and focus. These aren’t vision problems—they’re brain-based processing issues we can support through occupational therapy.

What Are Visual Processing Challenges?

Visual processing refers to how the brain interprets and responds to what the eyes see. Even if a child has 20/20 vision, they may struggle with tracking, depth perception, spatial awareness, or visually remembering what they’ve seen.
These challenges can make learning, play, and daily life more difficult—and often get mistaken for attention or behavioral issues.

How We Help

At The Therapy Collaborative, our occupational therapists assess your child’s visual-motor integration, perception, and processing—and create a customized plan to strengthen these foundational skills through engaging, therapeutic activities.

We help children who:

  • Lose their place while reading or copying from the board

  • Struggle to catch a ball, complete puzzles, or navigate space

  • Mix up letters, numbers, or directions

  • Have poor handwriting despite effort

  • Seem clumsy or disorganized visually

Our approach blends movement, coordination, visual training, and cognitive support to help your child build lasting skills for learning and everyday life.

As visual processing improves, kids read more fluidly, write with less frustration, and move through their day with greater ease. Parents often say, “It finally makes sense—and now we know how to help.”
