How we work

Our approach

Adult and senior therapy at TTC is built around real-life priorities and practical goals that make a meaningful difference.

Practical, goal-based therapy

Therapy is built around real-life priorities — communicating with family, eating safely, managing daily routines, returning to meaningful activities, staying independent, and participating with confidence.

OT and SLP collaboration

Many adults benefit from a combined view of movement, cognition, communication, swallowing, routines, and daily function. When appropriate, TTC's OT and SLP team collaborates around shared goals.

Lifespan specialty clinic model

TTC is not only a pediatric clinic. We support people across the lifespan and bring the same individualized, function-focused approach to adult and senior care that we bring to our youngest patients.

Advanced options when needed

Some adults need a deeper model, more time, objective testing, or a more intensive schedule. TTC can help determine whether weekly therapy, intensive therapy, movement analysis, or complex rehab is the best fit.

Objective measurement

Understanding how you're moving

Following your evaluation, TTC may recommend a dedicated movement assessment session. We use objective clinical tools — including standardized assessments and movement analysis technology — to measure what is happening in the body and inform your treatment plan.

Force and balance assessment icon

Force and balance assessment

Objective measurement of how the body produces and distributes force — useful for understanding asymmetry, balance concerns, and fall risk in adults and seniors.

Movement pattern analysis icon

Movement pattern analysis

Clinical tools to assess coordination, body mechanics, and movement quality — supporting clinical decision-making for stroke, Parkinson's, and complex rehab patients.

Progress tracking icon

Progress tracking over time

Objective data gives us a baseline and a reliable way to measure real change — important for conditions like Parkinson's where subtle functional changes matter.

Senior-specific care

Support for seniors

TTC is not only a pediatric clinic.

We support people across the lifespan. Many seniors come to TTC because they want a clinic that takes their functional goals seriously — not just their diagnosis.

Whether you're managing changes after a stroke, adjusting to a Parkinson's diagnosis, noticing swallowing changes, or simply finding that daily tasks have become harder, TTC can help you identify the right starting point.

The process

What to expect

01

Evaluation

We begin by learning about your medical history, current concerns, daily routines, goals, and what has or has not helped so far.

02

Therapy plan

Your therapist will recommend a plan that may include OT, speech-language therapy, swallowing support, home programming, movement assessment, or intensive therapy.

03

Treatment

Sessions are practical and goal-based — focused on communication, cognition, swallowing, daily routines, movement, independence, and return to meaningful activity.

04

Progress review

We track progress and update the plan as goals change — keeping therapy relevant and focused on what matters most at each stage.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do OT and SLP work together at TTC?

Many adults benefit from both OT and SLP. OT focuses on daily function, independence, cognition, and movement. SLP focuses on communication, swallowing, voice, and language-based cognition. When goals overlap — such as after stroke or with Parkinson's — TTC's team collaborates around shared priorities.

Do you offer physical therapy?

TTC currently offers OT and SLP services. Physical therapy services are planned for the future. Until then, we are careful to recommend care that fits our current scope and can help coordinate referrals when needed.

Can therapy help if I have already tried therapy before?

Yes. Many patients come to TTC when previous therapy has not created the progress they hoped for. We begin by understanding what has already been tried and what needs to be different.

Do you see patients traveling from outside Bloomington-Normal?

Yes. TTC serves adults and seniors from across Central Illinois and the broader Midwest. For patients traveling for care, we can discuss scheduling options including intensive therapy models that concentrate sessions over a defined period.
