Specialty conditions with dedicated expertise:

POTS and dysautonomia

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and related dysautonomia conditions affect energy, activity tolerance, daily function, and participation. TTC provides OT support focused on pacing, activity management, functional strategies, and daily independence for patients navigating these complex and often misunderstood conditions.

Hypermobility and hEDS

Hypermobility spectrum disorder and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome affect joints, energy, pain, proprioception, and daily function. TTC's OT approach addresses functional strategies, activity pacing, joint protection, daily living adaptations, and participation — with an understanding of the complexity these conditions bring.

FND and complex functional symptoms

Functional neurological disorder and complex functional symptoms require a therapist who understands nervous system-informed care. TTC's OT team has experience working with FND patients — focusing on function, daily routines, participation, and practical strategies that transfer into real life.

Chronic pain and fatigue

Chronic pain and fatigue affect every aspect of daily life. TTC provides OT support focused on pacing, energy conservation, activity adaptation, cognitive strategies, and functional participation — helping patients rebuild capacity and confidence over time.

Splinting at TTC

TTC evaluates each patient's diagnosis, anatomy, and functional goals to determine the most appropriate splinting approach — whether that's a prefabricated splint that can be fitted and modified in-clinic, or a custom thermoplastic splint fabricated specifically for the patient.

Custom splinting is recommended when off-the-shelf options won't achieve the positioning, fit, or functional outcomes needed. Both approaches are combined with a hand therapy program addressing strength, range of motion, functional use, and return to daily activities.

How we work

Our approach

Occupational therapy at TTC is clinically rigorous, individually tailored, and grounded in real-life function.

Specialty clinic depth

TTC brings a specialty rehabilitation model to OT — with clinical expertise in complex conditions, objective movement assessment, and individualized care that goes beyond standard weekly therapy.

Function-first treatment

Every goal is anchored in what matters to the patient — returning to work, managing daily routines, regaining hand function, rebuilding independence, or participating in meaningful activities.

OT and SLP collaboration

Many adults benefit from coordinated OT and SLP care. When cognition, communication, swallowing, and daily function overlap, TTC's team collaborates around shared goals.

Intensive options available

For patients who need more than weekly therapy, TTC can consider intensive therapy models — concentrated sessions designed to accelerate functional gains over a defined period.

Objective measurement

Clinical technology in OT assessment

Following your evaluation, TTC may recommend a dedicated movement assessment session using objective clinical tools — providing measurable data to guide treatment and track progress over time.

Force and balance assessment icon

Force and balance assessment

Objective measurement of force production, weight distribution, and balance — informing treatment for POTS, hypermobility, neurologic conditions, and fall risk.

Movement pattern analysis icon

Movement pattern analysis

Clinical assessment of body mechanics, coordination, and movement quality — supporting clinical decision-making for FND, hypermobility, and neurologic rehab patients.

Progress tracking icon

Standardized testing and progress tracking

Objective baseline data and standardized assessments give us a reliable way to measure real functional change — essential for complex conditions where progress can be subtle.

The process

What to expect

01

Evaluation

We begin with a thorough evaluation of your history, current functional concerns, daily routines, goals, and what has or has not helped so far.

02

Assessment

Depending on your needs, your therapist may recommend a dedicated movement assessment session using objective clinical tools and standardized testing.

03

Treatment

Sessions are goal-based and clinically driven — focused on function, daily routines, hand therapy, cognitive strategies, activity pacing, or specialty rehab depending on your needs.

04

Progress review

Goals and objective data are reviewed regularly — adapting the plan as function changes and ensuring therapy stays aligned with what matters most.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How is OT cognitive rehab different from SLP cognitive-communication?

OT cognitive rehab focuses on executive function, attention, daily task performance, and functional independence. SLP cognitive-communication focuses on language-based cognition — word retrieval, discourse, and functional communication. Both can be appropriate and TTC's team collaborates when goals overlap.

Do you see patients traveling from outside Bloomington-Normal?

Yes. TTC serves patients from across Central Illinois and the broader Midwest. For patients traveling for care, we can discuss intensive therapy scheduling options that concentrate sessions over a defined period.

Can OT help if I have already tried therapy elsewhere?

Yes. Many patients come to TTC when previous therapy has not created the progress they hoped for. We begin by understanding what has already been tried and what may need to be different.

Is this different from standard OT at other clinics?

TTC brings a specialty clinic model to OT — with expertise in complex conditions, objective movement assessment, and individualized care for patients whose needs go beyond what standard weekly therapy provides.

Expert occupational therapy for complex needs and everyday function.

Whether you need support with daily independence, hand therapy, cognitive rehab, or a complex condition that hasn't responded to standard care — TTC can help you find the right starting point.
