FND & Complex Rehabilitation · Bloomington-Normal, IL
FND and complex rehabilitation for children, teens, and adults.
The Therapy Collaborative provides therapy for people with Functional Neurological Disorder, complex movement and functional symptoms, chronic pain and fatigue, and therapy needs that have not improved with standard care.
Many patients come to TTC after trying weekly therapy, single-discipline care, or specialty programs that did not create the progress they hoped for. Our approach focuses on function, participation, nervous system-informed care, and practical strategies that help people move toward meaningful goals.

A different model
If therapy hasn't worked, it may be time for a different approach.
Many patients with FND, complex functional symptoms, or chronic pain have seen multiple providers, tried different therapy models, and still feel stuck. The progress they expected hasn't come — and sometimes they've been told there's nothing more that can be done.
Coming to TTC doesn't mean starting over. It means starting differently.
One of the most common things we hear from new patients is that they finally feel heard. We take time to understand your full story before we recommend anything — because the right plan starts with the right understanding.
How we work
Our approach
FND and complex rehab at TTC is built around function, nervous system-informed care, and practical goals that transfer into real life.
Function-first therapy
We focus on what the person needs to do in real life. Treatment may address movement, communication, daily routines, regulation, endurance, confidence, participation, and functional independence.
OT and SLP collaboration
FND and complex rehab may involve movement, sensory processing, cognition, communication, swallowing, daily routines, and participation. TTC's OT and SLP team can collaborate when multiple systems are involved.
Objective movement technology
We use clinical movement assessment tools to understand what is happening in the body — measuring force, balance, asymmetry, coordination, and movement quality to guide treatment decisions and track progress over time.
Travel-friendly planning
Patients and families may travel to TTC from outside Bloomington-Normal. When appropriate, we can help discuss scheduling models, evaluation options, intensive therapy planning, and home carryover strategies.
Objective measurement
Understanding what's happening in your body
Following your initial evaluation, TTC may recommend a dedicated movement assessment session. We use objective clinical tools — including standardized assessments and movement analysis technology — to measure what is happening in the body and inform your treatment plan. For patients whose symptoms have been difficult to explain or measure, this changes the conversation.
Force and balance assessment
We can measure how the body produces, absorbs, and distributes force — providing objective data on asymmetry, balance, weight shifting, and functional movement patterns that inform treatment planning.
Movement pattern analysis
Clinical movement analysis tools help us assess body mechanics, coordination, and movement quality. This supports clinical decision-making and helps patients better understand how they are moving — and why it may feel difficult.
Progress tracking over time
Objective data gives us a baseline and a way to measure real change. For FND patients who have been told progress is unmeasurable, this is an important part of the treatment model at TTC.
What we work on
What therapy may include
FND and complex rehab is individualized. Therapy may draw from any combination of the following based on your needs and goals.
The process
What to expect
Evaluation
We begin by learning your story — symptoms, diagnoses, therapy history, what has helped, what has not helped, daily limitations, and goals.
Plan
Your therapist will recommend a plan based on your needs. This may include weekly therapy, intensive therapy, a dedicated movement assessment session, standardized testing, home programming, or referral collaboration.
Therapy
Sessions are practical and function-based. The goal is to build skills and strategies that transfer into daily life — not just clinic performance.
Progress review
Complex rehab often requires adjustment over time. We review progress, update goals, and adapt the plan as function changes — using objective data where available to track real gains.
Focused care option
Intensive therapy for FND and complex rehab
Some patients need more than weekly therapy can provide. TTC offers intensive therapy models that use high-frequency sessions over a defined period of time to support focused gains in function, participation, and daily life.
Intensive therapy may be appropriate when progress has stalled, goals are time-sensitive, or a patient is traveling for care and needs a concentrated model.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Do you treat FND?
Yes. TTC works with patients with FND and complex functional symptoms. Therapy is individualized and focused on function, participation, daily routines, and meaningful goals.
Do you only treat children with FND?
No. TTC serves children, teens, adults, and seniors with FND and complex rehab needs.
Can I come to TTC if another program did not help?
Yes. Many patients seek care at TTC after standard therapy or other specialty care did not create the progress they hoped for. We start by understanding what has already been tried and what may need to be different.
Is this the same as physical therapy?
TTC currently provides OT and SLP services. Physical therapy services are planned for the future. We are careful to recommend care that fits each patient's needs and our current scope.
How does the technology help with FND and chronic pain treatment?
Objective movement assessments give us measurable data on how the body is moving — including force, balance, asymmetry, and coordination. For complex patients, this helps validate symptoms, guide treatment, and track real progress over time.
Do you offer intensive therapy for FND?
Yes. TTC has a limited number of intensive therapy slots available for FND and complex rehab patients. Intensive therapy uses high-frequency sessions over a defined period to support focused gains. Contact us to discuss whether this model may be appropriate.
You deserve care that takes your symptoms seriously.
If you or your child has FND, chronic symptoms, movement changes, fatigue, or complex therapy needs that have not responded to standard care — TTC can help you identify the next best step. You don't have to keep starting over.
